Hey! I'm Chris

Software Engineer | Technologist.

A little about me

Mode: Work
A reliable, resilient, proactive and hands-on technologist. Proven track record of scaling and supporting cross-functional engineering teams from the ground up. Plans, executes and nurtures any technical project. My skillset covers full stack microservice architectures and leading projects (PoCs, MVPs, prototypes, greenfield) to building fully scaled platforms, product development/strategy/delivery and creating/running the teams that go with it. Comfortable (and competent!) working across the stack with a polygot approach to building software.

Mode: Home
I refuse to sweat the small stuff. I'll probably be hit by a bus tomorrow, so must maximise every moment. I take risks and I am ok with failure. If I'm not making mistakes, I'm not learning.

Computer Science BSc (Hons)

University of Sussex

August 2010 – June 2013

First Class Honours
Dissertation: Gesture recognition technology with an accompanied NLP speech assistant largely inspired by the film 'Minority Report'. Through the combination of various open source projects and computer vision principles, the product brought fluent, concise gesture technology into the household at an affordable price using a prelaunch version of the Windows Kinect device. The recognition process utilised Hidden Markov modelling and was later expanded to accept custom gesture input. Examples of interaction included manipulation of images and Autodesk models, full control of Windows 8 OS with speech recognition processing and real time query responses.

Informatics Tutor (Team Lead)

University of Sussex

October 2011 – June 2013

I both organised and ran large tuition sessions on behalf of the University of Sussex informatics department for undergraduate students. The predominant areas covered included OOP, advanced mathematics, algorithm design, measuring asymptotic complexity and foundational concepts that feature on the CS degree at Sussex.
